Pressroom
On March 12, 1926, the Savoy Ballroom opened a new chapter in American music and dancing, creating new dance forms, new jazz legends, and serving roughly 15 million revelers before it closed in 1958. On March 12, 2006, the 80th anniversary of its opening, the Savoy Ballroom will be remembered and close to 100 of those who made it the "Home of Happy Feet" will be honored as part of weekend celebration culminating in a dinner-dance at the Alhambra Ballroom. See the attached press release for details. A contact sheet of Savoy musicians and dancers who are available for interview, as well as the numbers for the panel moderators, historians Terry Monaghan and Sally Sommer, are available upon request.
